Leadership Institute of Northern Virginia’s ON BOARD! workshop

The Leadership Institute of Northern Virginia’s ON BOARD! workshops are a nonprofit board training program, which aims to educate both nonprofit board members and prospective board members on the basic roles and responsibilities of serving on a nonprofit board. As a component of the Leadership Institute of Northern Virginia, the workshop’s mission is to create capacity amongst Northern Virginia nonprofits through the education and high-level professional training of nonprofit board members.

From understanding financial stewardship to setting strategic goals, a trained board member is an effective board member.

Program Specifics
ON BOARD! workshops are held twice-yearly, wherein individuals attend a one-day seminar that gives an in-depth overview of the roles and legal responsibilities of being a nonprofit board member. Over 40 participants gather for a day of learning aimed at deepening the participant’s understanding of how to increase one’s efficacy as a nonprofit board member. Since the workshop's inception in early 2009, 97% of participants at Leadership Arlington’s ON BOARD! workshops indicated that the seminar was “superior” or “excellent.” Past participants have said of the workshop, “It was great! A needed course for any board member – but especially for a new one such as myself!”
